Pet Food Pantry

For an animal that would otherwise be relinquished, pet food could mean the difference between life and death.

Shelters are reporting an increase in the number of pets relinquished for financial reasons. In some cases, a family simply can’t afford another mouth to feed. This could cause their pet to go hungry or may lead to relinquishment and ultimately, death.

Compassion In Action’s Pet Food Pantry provides dog and cat food to families experiencing financial difficulties. To qualify, applicants must meet income guidelines and the pet(s) must not be used for breeding purposes. If they’re not already spayed/neutered, the owner must agree to have this done. As resources permit, we offer financial assistance through our Spay/Neuter Assistance program.

Food is provided for existing pets. Recipients are not permitted to acquire additional pets while receiving assistance. The Pet Food Pantry provides food as a temporary measure to help bridge difficult times. We do not provide food on a permanent basis and since we rely on donations, availability is not guaranteed.

As food resources permit, we also assist those feeding spayed/neutered feral and stray cats.

Please be aware that our pet food resources rely entirely on donations and are limited. For this reason, we ask that requests be limited to only those who truly cannot afford to feed their pet. If you need pet food, please submit an application here. Or, please contact us for an application. Or, download an application here.

Help Feed A Hungry Animal

Food donations of all types are welcomed and needed. We need both cat and dog food, canned and dry. Broken/open bags are gratefully accepted. We welcome shelf-pulls and food that’s nearing its expiration date. If you’re interested in donating food or assisting us in collecting food donations, please contact us.

At this time, our Pet Food Pantry program is limited to our locations in PA and NC.

Northeast PA (Near Scranton, Montrose, Tunkhannock, etc)
NC: Mt Airy, Winston Salem

For large donations (i.e. from manufacturers and distributors), we’ll travel within several hours of these locations. Please contact us to arrange pick up if you’re interested in donating a large quantity of food.
